The year of many Costumes

I figured I better get on a halloween costume post.
It only took me one large cup of Javita coffee (yes a shameless plug) and a whole lot of pics to go through and edit. The girls had multiple costumes this year, for different reasons. The first being they both wanted to be Jessie from Toy Story.
We went to the  annual halloween dance and T got to be the first to wear the coveted costume.
S was happy to be a poodle skirt wearin' 50's girl (a costume my mom picked up somewhere).
For the Jessie costume I opted for the generic store bought costume borrowed from a friend and I followed the same tutorial as last year with a little improv on the bangs to make a Jessie wig.
Cute huh?

I managed to find an adult size Woodie costume at a garage sale for a buck so I wore the ever so flattering (NOT!) costume to match my lil girlie.

Hubby was unable to join us this year so that was kind of a bummer.
Regardless the kids and I had a blast at the dance. It was a lot of fun!

On to the next costume...
S is part of a church kids club, anyone familiar with Awana?
I was told that the kids could dress up as either a Bible character or an animal. Since neither Jessie or a 50's girl fit the bill, I threw together a cute mouse costume. Using the ears and tail that I had made a couple years back
Long story short, she ended up being the only kid dressed up!!!
But she had lots of fun telling people she was the little mouse that lived in the stable where Jesus was born.

Then finally it was trick-or-treating day!
S got to be Jessie and T was a little puppy (familiar?).

Of course the girls got tons of candy (which is actually perfect timing since they are my bribing tool for potty training). The weather was awesome and the kids were in bed by 7:45! A win, win, win!

We also managed to get in a lil crafting Thursday afternoon.
I was babysitting my friends little girl and we made toilet paper roll mummies and baby food jar jack o' lanterns.

And finally just because I have to brag up my super talented sister, here is my nephew and niece in their Pirate and Little Mermaid costumes.

For the mermaid hair she used the same tutorial as I did for the Jessie and Rapunzel wig. I asked her if she had used any other tutorials to help her make the 100% homemade costumes and she said everything else came from her Noggin.
Like I said SUPER talented!

Overloaded with cuteness yet?
Happy Monday!

Favorite Halloween Projects

I haven't done any crafting for halloween this year except for putting together another wig. So I thought I would share with you my favorite projects from the past three years.

1. My Mini Album featuring me in my costumes growing up.

2. The birdhouse transformed into a fun haunted house

3. And from last year, the super easy framed halloween onesie.

If you want to check out the rest of my halloween projects and costumes go HERE.

In other news I went to our local fall craft sale this year and came upon a really neat booth selling cool nail polish!
I thought I would do a shout out to Bree of Mrs. P's Nail Potions because I am loving the stuff I got!

Above I am wearing Lean, Mean and Aubergine an awesome brownish/purple color from her Fall Collection as well as the Pumpkin Chai scented top coat (it is Ah-mazing, I love it!). This former nail biter is loving this combo!
I also bought the blue/purple shifty which the girls have worn but I haven't yet.
Go check out her Etsy shop or facebook page
FYI The Pumpkin Chai scent is only available til October 31st!

Happy Wednesday!

Repurposed: Onesie

I meant to do this post before Halloween, but never got around to it.
I figure this is not a Halloween specific project, so I still want to share it with you.

I bought this cute stitched spider onesie for $2 with the intention of putting it in a frame (which I already had) for another piece of Halloween decor.

I was planning on actually cutting up the onesie and putting it in the frame (which I still might do) but for a quick fix I was able to wrap it around a piece of cardboard(cut to fit inside the frame), fold, and simply tape into place.

Not that pretty to look at from the back...but from the front it is exactly what I was hoping for! And it looked great on my Halloween mantel.

Now I might have to go through the girls onesies that they have out grown and use this concept for some decorations in their rooms! So quick and Easy!

And lastly, just one more Halloween related pic, my sweeties ready to go 'trick or treat'ing.
They had an absolute blast!

Other projects made by me in this post:

A little 'Tangled': Mother Gothel and Flynn Rider Costumes

I did it! I managed to finish costumes for hubby and I in time for the halloween dance we went to on Saturday night. I started mine Friday afternoon during naptime, and finished hubbies 15 minutes before the dance started. Nothing like last minute crafting!
(I was running so late that the pics were taken after the dance, so they aren't great)

For my costume, I found a huge curtain at the thrift store that was the perfect color and pattern for Mother Gothels dress! I bought some gold ribbon at Walmart to outline the neckline and sash. (P.S. I didn't make the neck line dip to low since I was going to be dancing and lifting kids and such.) I tied on a cape and curled my hair (didn't want to spend the money on a wig).Tada, a Mother Gothel costume!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                  via
Ever since S knew she was going to be Rapunzel, she has been saying 'Daddy be Eugene!'.
So this was as close as I could get to Eugene/Flynn Rider:

                                                                                        via
For the record, I had a wig for hubby but poor little T just screamed every time he put it on. So a bald Eugene he was, haha. He did shave to match Eugene's goatee though, what a good sport! I bought a blue dress shirt at the thrift store and cut off the sleeves for the vest and he had pants that were close to the right color. I used one of hubby's leather belts and put on a felt piece to look like a bag. I also used brown felt to cover his pants and look like tall boots, he wore brown shoes.

...and yeah, T was the odd lion out!

We had a really fun night! And I felt truly in character since I was chasing around little Rapunzel and telling her to get back here and be careful of strangers, haha.
Mother knows best,  right?

A little 'Tangled': Rapunzel Wig and Costume

So it all started with a purple dress and a 3 year olds obsession with Rapunzel. I was planning on S being a princess and wear the dress (that I had got at a garage sale). But when I saw  This Mama Makes Stuff's  tutorial for a fabulous yarn Rapunzel wig(and Rapunzels dress is purple) I needed to do it! Of course I asked S if she would be willing to wear Rapunzel hair before going to all the work of making it, and she was totally excited about it!
I LOVE how it turned out, it is soooo stinkin' cuh-ute!

I made the actual wig awhile ago and then kept it hidden until recently. I had to bring it out to do the braid while she was wearing it. She loved it! So it has been hard to keep from her ever since. (I don't want a ruined costume before halloween!) After braiding I attached the flowers, which definitely added the finishing touch.

S will be carrying the frying pan while trick or treating, and holding it out to collect her candy.
(Of course daddy will have a big bag to collect the loot and carry for her)

I was planning on T being Pascal, hubby being Flynn Rider (he is known as Eugene around here, I'm pretty sure S doesn't even know he is called Flynn, haha) and myself being Mother Gothel.
BUT...
I have a lion costume that S wore two years ago that I just can't pass up. It is too adorable not to use again on T , who fits it perfectly. I also figured for trick or treating I didn't need to spend the money decking the whole family out in coordinating costumes.
BUT...
We have recently found out that we will be going to a halloween family dance on Saturday. So I might bust my butt and make the costumes for me and hubby...poor T will be the odd Lion out... possibly.

Better Late Then Never....

As promised I said that I would post our halloween costumes from last Monday. My week got away from me, so it's a little late. Hubby didn't dress-up but me and the girls were a puppy, kitty, and a mouse!

T was a little (leopard) kitty, I bought her costume at Costco. (Next year my goal is to make all the costumes....) The night before halloween I threw together some mouse ears and a tail for myself. Add a grey shirt and some facepaint and I had a nice easy costume.

I didn't make S's costume (I got it off a garage sale site), but I am sure it's homemade. She was a cute little pink puppy. I wanted to paint on a nose but she wouldn't let me. A detail I added was to put a sign on her treat pail saying 'puppy chow'.

Once again hubby and I set aside an evening to carve jack-o-lanterns (a tradition I mentioned in this post). Usually we just do one pumpkin each, hubby and I. But this year we decided to do one each for the girls too. This is what we came up with:

And I can't help myself but to share my little nephews costume. My sister made this costume for him. Isn't he the cutest little Garden Gnome??

Although we never got to see him in person the pictures she sent are priceless. (and I asked her if I could share one with all of you) She used felt for the hat, faux fur for the beard, used his normal clothes (stuffed his belly with fluff), and she made the little suspenders. SO CUTE!! He might have to model this for us at Christmas...

So that was our halloween!

Cutesy Clown

Happy Halloween!
Hope everyone has a safe and treat filled time!

I am sure looking forward to going Trick or Treating with S, I'm hoping she'll get really excited about it. Although don't you think it's kind of a weird concept...teaching your kids to go to strangers houses and ask for candy??? hmm.....anyways....

The picture above is of sweet lil T in MY very first halloween costume! Homemade by my mom circa 1986. Aren't I a cutie(below). You may recognize these pics from my Spooktacular Mini Album which records a lot of my childhood halloween costumes.

It's funny because I was a couple of months older than what T is but she fills it out much better, haha, I must have good milk! (Below: My Grandpa holding me and me holding T.)

She won't be wearing this costume tonight however, you'll just have to wait and see what the girlies wear in a post later on this week!
