A pep talk to me

I've been feeling like I've been getting behind lately, in everything. Which when I actually think about it, in reality I am not. Confusing concept? ....sorry.

Let's break it down:

The Kids: I spend tons of time with my girls and my oldest prefers to play by herself a lot of the time but I keep thinking could I do more. Am I teaching them enough, am I including them in enough activities outside the home, etc. etc..... probably something a lot of moms think about... In reality I'm not the perfect mom (who is?) but my kids know I love them and we do have lots of good times together.

The Hubby: Most evenings after getting the kids to bed we are in front of the tv together (usually both with our laptops) just unwinding from the events of the day. I'm thinking we should change that up.... play scrabble together like we used to, for example.
Of course at the end of a hard day I don't really feel like taking on my husband in a word game....he usually beats me when I'm at my best, haha. So atleast we are spending time together and talking about our day, regardless of the activity being done.

Housework: I keep things around here pretty tidy, but not necessarily clean all the time. And since we have recently listed our house, I'm feeling the pressure to keep it spotless at all times (hard to do with two littles). My attitude to housework is that I would rather be spending time with the kids and when they are napping I would rather be crafting, haha. In reality I'm doing pretty good, most of the time.

Projects: I've been feeling behind I think because I haven't been finishing some projects as soon as I would like. Also, the more I'm on Pinterest the more projects I want to do...literally a NEVER ENDING LIST! In reality I do at least a project a week, some don't make it on here, but they do get done. Better than nothing, right?

The Blog : I was on a steady schedule of posting every second day for a few weeks and then I fell off of the bandwagon (somewhat like an exercise regime, ha!). In reality this is just a fun space for me to share some of my thoughts and hopefully inspire people to create. It shouldn't rob time from my home life, so I should be fine with putting it on the back burner.

Anyways just wanted to share a bit of my struggle at the moment, also explaining why I may not be posting as often as I would like or sticking to a schedule.

I'm really excited about some upcoming posts, but between taking pics (and editing pics) and writing about them I haven't got them up yet.... I promise they'll be coming soon!

Until then why don't you whip up one of these necklaces pictured above!

Happy Wednesday!

A Bag for Bags

Although this project is a practical one I am a sucker for organization and if you can add fun fabric into the mix, I'm all game!

This is my 'recycling closet', which also holds my flour, bread machine, and my wheat mill (yup, I grind my own wheat for my whole wheat flour.... I also purchase flour as you can see in the pic....anyways.....).

Consider yourself lucky for this picture was taken just days after a recycle run. Usually the blue bin is busting with shopping bags and the pile of egg cartons are up to the next shelf, as well as the stack of newspaper.
What brought on this project is that after my closet had been cleaned out a heap of bread bags still remained ( I save them to put my homemade bread in). I wanted to clean up the clutter, hence my bag for bags!

Wanna make one? It's easy peasy!

Here's what you need:

- a fat quarter
- a sewing machine
- ribbon/string/shoelace etc.

Here's what you do:

1. Hem* two opposing sides, it doesn't really matter which. I chose to do the longer sides so my bag ended up being more short and fat, if you do the shorter sides it would be long and skinny.
*Your ribbon will be going through the hole so make sure it is thick enough.

2. Fold it in half bringing the two raw edges together (right sides together).  Sew together but start your stitch after the hem and finish before the hem leaving the openings for the ribbon to go through.

3. Feed your ribbon through the tube. (Hint: If you attach a safety pin to your ribbon it will make it easier to feed through) Grab both ends of the ribbon and pull and the fabric will gather together, get the opening to the size you would like and tie a knot. Repeat with the other side but finish with a loop of ribbon so it can be hung.

4. Your done! Stuff it with bags!

Now doesn't that look better!

A simple way to add a little cheer to a rather boring closet!

A Shirt/Skirt Refashion

Do you ever log into blogger with the plan of writing a new post and then you get sidetracked by your dashboard?
....makes for a very long computer session, ha.
But I've finally made my way back to the post I came here to write.

A shirt and a skirt refashion...
I used a turtleneck long sleeve toddler shirt and an adult skirt that was a hand-me-down from a friend that I have never worn.

I was perusing some of my favorite blogs for inspiration when I stumbled upon this post which uses the exact same skirt (just in a different color). Another difference was that she used a t-shirt that was ready to use, she just needed to attach it to the skirt. I however wanted to challenge myself and transform the turtleneck.

This is what I came up with....

I still might add a waist band and a flower,
but for now it's good enough.
The perfect play dress.

Of course when trying to snap a picture of S in the dress, she wouldn't stand still.

So I made her sit down....but she insisted on holding her bunny.

I finally told her to go look at herself in the mirror...
which would have been a perfect opportunity,
except for the fact that she had to show bunny her new dress.

Oh well, I tried.

So if you have an old skirt laying around that you never wear, pair it with a shirt!
A quick/easy way to make a new dress for the little lady in your life!
